Mary Swann

Mary is an accomplished plein-air painter whose landscapes are derived from the Pa. and Md. countryside and Nova Scotia’s seascape. A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, she has been represented by many Mid-Atlantic galleries and participated in numerous exhibitions in the region. In 2001, she had the unforgettable pleasure of being visiting artist at MICA’s summer program in San Miguel de Allende Art. Her work is in collections throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic including the permanent collection of the Baltimore Museum of Art.

“An outdoor landscape painting is an attempt to prolong a fleeting moment in a lasting feeling of connection with the natural world.”

Over the years, Mary has also created a large body of narrative quilts. More recently, she has illustrated and written two children’s books, The Story of the Close Cat and A Fearsome Day.
